I think the original in the second half is easier to see than the color correction in the first half. This is the drive recorder footage of a fatal accident that occurred at the Yanagisaki 5-chome intersection in Yanagisaki, Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture on January 14th of this year. In this case, a 29-year-old Turkish national in the demolition industry was sentenced to one year and six months in prison. (Saitama District Court)

Is 1 year and 6 months in prison a heavy or light sentence?
The “one year and six months’ prison sentence” handed down to a Turkish man in connection with an accident in Kawaguchi City is particularly heavy when compared to the sentencing standards for fatal driving accidents in Japan. Under the Act on Punishment of Dangerous Driving that causes death, the legal penalty for causing death by dangerous driving is a fixed-term imprisonment of one year to 20 years, but according to the Ministry of Justice’s 2020 Crime White Paper, 94.4% of those found guilty of the same crime in 2024 were sentenced to prison, and 14 of the 18 people sentenced received prison terms of more than five years. On the other hand, for the lesser offense of negligent driving resulting in death, only 4.7% of convictions result in prison sentences, with most ending with suspended sentences. The current sentence of 1 year and 6 months falls between these two extremes, and is outside the norm for cases of negligent driving causing death in terms of prison time, but lighter than typical cases of dangerous driving causing death.
The number of road traffic fatalities in Japan per 100,000 people will be 2.1 as of 2023, which is about one-seventh of the world average (15.0 as of 2021), and the fact that Japan is a country where fatal accidents are socially rare should also be kept in mind when making sentencing decisions.
