On the 9th of this month, footage circulated showing “Sufutan”—a female participant in the cabaret hostess audition show LAST CALL—apparently committing suicide by hanging during a live TikTok broadcast. While the authenticity of the event remains unconfirmed—as only clips showing the aftermath are in circulation—the incident is widely regarded as “almost certainly” a suicide, given the show’s reputation as being plagued by constant trouble.

In 2020, Japan was deeply shocked by the death of Hana Kimura, a 22-year-old professional wrestler and cast member of the popular reality show Terrace House; she took her own life after being subjected to a barrage of online abuse stemming from the show’s content. It later emerged that several individuals who posted such comments faced criminal penalties for the crime of insult.
Regarding a female cast member of a program whose footage has recently gone viral, reports indicate that—approximately three weeks prior to the incident—she had posted on social media about being inundated with abusive comments. The spread of unverified footage highlights a systemic issue wherein cast members are highly vulnerable to public abuse; indeed, similar problems have been repeatedly raised even now, years after the tragedy involving Kimura.
