Revenge Porn Prevention Law covers more than just ex-partners
The “Revenge Porn Prevention Law” (enacted in 2014) sounds from the name like it only punishes revenge by an ex, but the actual scope is much wider. Anyone who provides a “private sexual image recording” protected under the law to a third party without permission can be punished — it doesn’t matter if it’s an ex-boyfriend, ex-husband, or someone else entirely.
However, images where the person being filmed knew and agreed at the time of shooting that a third party might see them are excluded from this protection. The single point of how much was explained and agreed to when the photos or video were taken is what decides whether legal protection applies later or not.
