I don’t get it.
Here is that shocking incident from Indonesia I shared previously: a mother, disappointed by the birth of a baby boy, slit her own child’s throat and killed him. I am reposting this because the video had gone viral on overseas sites.

Video of infant killing: Is it the same case from North Sumatra?
Based on a comparison of news reports, the incident previously mentioned by Le C’est La Vie—in which a mother brutally killed her own child out of jealousy toward the newborn—appears to be the same case as the one currently being attributed to the fact that the baby was a boy. The incident in question occurred on September 23, 2024, in Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra, where a 33-year-old mother was arrested for killing her 18-day-old son; investigations suggest the motive was jealousy regarding her husband’s affection rather than simple disappointment over the baby’s gender.
Reports also indicate that postpartum mental instability may have played a role. Postpartum psychosis is a relatively rare condition, affecting one or two out of every 1,000 women who give birth; however, in 1% to 4% of cases, it can lead to critical behavior involving attempts to kill the infant. It should be noted that the cultural value placed on male children is not uniform across Indonesia. For instance, while the strong patriarchal culture of Bali places particular importance on boys as heirs to the family line, that region and culture differ from North Sumatra, where this incident took place.
