Yikes! That is terrifying. This appears to be dashcam footage from a Tesla Model 3 that spun a full 360 degrees after being rear-ended by a truck on the highway during Silver Week. I wonder where that camera is mounted—it kept capturing such a clear image even after the side mirror was destroyed.

Trucks are responsible for 60% of rear-end collisions on expressways.
The footage in question was reportedly filmed during the “Silver Week” holiday period of 2026 (September 19–23). This marked the first five-day holiday stretch in September since 2015; because standard weekend/holiday ETC toll discounts were suspended during this time, heavy traffic congestion was anticipated on outbound lanes at the start of the period and on inbound lanes toward the end.
Statistical data indicates a high prevalence of rear-end collisions involving commercial trucks on expressways. According to figures from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and other bodies, rear-end collisions account for approximately 60% of all truck-related accidents resulting in death or injury on expressways, with accumulated fatigue from long hours of driving cited as a contributing factor. In response, amendments to the “Notification on Improvement Standards”—which tighten regulations regarding driver duty hours—came into effect in April 2024. Additionally, within the jurisdiction of NEXCO West, there were 39 fatal traffic accidents resulting in 42 deaths in 2025—an increase from the previous year—prompting calls for drivers to maintain safe following distances to prevent rear-end collisions with stationary vehicles.
The vehicle shown in the footage is a Tesla Model 3. This model has a proven safety record, having achieved a perfect score in the frontal offset crash test conducted by the European safety assessment organization Euro NCAP in 2019, as well as a high score of 94% in the evaluation of its advanced driver-assistance systems.
