Whoa… a story blew up all over the internet saying a young girl in Vietnam got swallowed whole by the huge python they kept as a pet at home. It’s a pretty shady-looking news story, but a video of the girl playing around with the giant snake in everyday life, plus an image of “the girl after she got swallowed,” are spreading like crazy.

The “swallowed whole” video is fake — real habitat changes are the actual background
The video going around about “a Vietnamese girl getting swallowed by her pet python” was checked on September 10, 2026, and ruled as misinformation. It’s a mix of unrelated clips and photos stuck together. The original video came from an Indonesian poster showing a kid playing with a python — the snake never actually attacks anyone in it. Then someone apparently pasted on a photo of a different snake with a swollen belly.
Local authorities never reported any such swallowing incident either. Even so, some media in Uzbekistan ran the story saying it was “causing worldwide anxiety,” and the whole thing kept spreading internationally even though nobody could confirm it was real.
That said, giant pythons actually swallowing people has happened. In June 2018 on Sulawesi Island in Indonesia, a woman was attacked and killed, and two of those cases happened in the same month. Experts point out that cutting down forests for palm oil plantations is changing the snakes’ habitat and making them run into people more often.
Japanese media still cover these rare accidents from time to time, so the topic keeps getting attention even though it’s extremely uncommon. The reason a fake video like this got believed so easily is probably because people already know this kind of thing can actually happen in real life.
