This is a somewhat old incident, but I am introducing it because it has resurfaced on overseas sites. A summary of a case in Thailand in which a happy-looking husband (former police officer) with a beautiful wife and cute children attacked a daycare center and killed 37 people, including 24 children, with guns and knives. After committing the crime, the man returned home and shot his wife and child to death before committing suicide, and it is said that the crime was caused by “stimulants.”

Thai nursery school attack, national response after the incident
The attack on a daycare center in Nongbua Lamphu Province, Thailand on October 6, 2022, which is reported in this video, is said to have been carried out by a 34-year-old former police officer who was addicted to stimulants. Four days after the incident, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at the time ordered stricter gun ownership regulations, including the revocation of gun licenses from people with bad behavior, the recall of firearms from police officers and civil servants who misused them, and the mandatory psychiatric evaluation of owners. It is also reported that King Vajiralongkorn has placed the bereaved families under the protection of the royal family, with the royal family paying for the funeral expenses of the deceased and medical expenses for the injured.
The background is the growing problem of stimulant abuse in Southeast Asia. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s 2025 report, 236 tons of stimulants were seized in Southeast Asia in 2024, a record 24% increase from the previous year, with Thailand recording the largest seizure in the region. Approximately 139 million Yerbur tablets have been confiscated, and because each tablet costs only a few dozen yen, it is said to be popular among young people and the poor.
