Clandestine filming videos: An organized business in China’s underground market.
In China, there exists an underground economy known as the “illicit hidden-camera trade,” involving the organized sale and purchase of secretly recorded videos. Cases uncovered by authorities revealed that viewing IDs were sold for between 100 and 600 yuan each (with prices briefly exceeding 1,000 yuan); systems were even established allowing a single ID to generate up to 100 invitation codes, enabling 100 people to watch simultaneously. Sellers managing networks of over 300 lower-level agents reportedly earned tens of thousands of yuan within just one or two months. A division of labor has been established—comprising the “masters” who do the filming, the middlemen who broker the videos, and the operators who manage streaming and billing—meaning the practice functions not merely as isolated individual crime, but as a full-fledged industry.
