Gold medalist suspended for 5 years over nude DVD
Ungureanu, a Romanian gymnast and two-time team gold medalist at the World Championships, appeared in a nude DVD and photobook produced in Japan in 2002 alongside two former teammates. In response, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation announced in December of that year that it was suspending the three athletes’ coaching and judging licenses for five years, with officials stating that they had “tarnished the honor of gymnastics.” According to reports, the three received approximately $40,000 each in compensation.
